Woman from Latvia killed in Tunisia resort

An 18-year-old Latvian citizen died and her mother was injured in an accident on a theme park ride May 24 in the Tunisian resort city of Hammamet, the Latvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced.

Svetlana Ivanova was killed and her mother, Zoja Ivanova, was hurt, the LETA news service reported. Both were living in Ireland.

Five other tourists were hurt in the accident, said the Tunisian newspaper La Presse. All were taken to a regional hospital for treatment.

Tunisian President Zine El Abidine Ben Ali ordered the minister of tourism to investigate the incident, La Presse reported.

The two Latvian citizens had arranged their trip through Panorama Holidays, an Irish company.

  1. I knew the girl (she was my classmate) and her mother…she was a lovely girl. I hope her mother gets better because she has 3 more children between the age of 3 and 15 and i don’t know who will take care of them. Her ex-classmates are in mourning for her. RIP

  2. i knew svetlana for 4 or 5 years . she was the nicest person that anybody could meet.i was talking to her the day she left for her holidays. she was on the bus on the way to the airport in dublin and she was so excited. it was an awful thing to happen to such a nice person.we all are praying for her mam to recover because her sister christina and her twin brothers need her.svetlana rest in peace .you were a legend. RIP FROM KENNY AND ALL DA LADS
