In celebration of their 10 year anniversary, drum and bagpipe ensemble Auļi have released a ‘best of’ compilation entitled Dižducis (Lauska CD042).
The album gathers twelve new recordings of their best compositions with new arrangements by multi-instrumentalist Kārlis Auzāns who is also the cellist and guitarist for the group Autobuss debesīs.
Auļi, made up of bagpipers Kaspars Bārbals, Edgars Kārklis, Māris Jēkabsons, Gatis Indrēvics, Normunds Vaivads and drummers Mikus Čavarts, Edgars Krūmiņš, and Kaspars Indrēvics are joined by Gatis Valters on bass. These new recordings also feature guest appearances by Juris Kaukulis of Dzelzs vilks, folk singer Zane Šmite, and, from Madagascar, Kilema on vocals and valiha, among many other guest musicians.
Auļi celebrated their 10th anniversary with a concert at the Riga Palladium concert hall on May 4th, where they were joined by many of the album guests.
In June, the ensemble will appear at the Etnosur Festival in Jaén, Spain, and, in July, at the Traversées Tatihou Festival in Ile de Tatihou, France.
