Latvia’s national airline airBaltic this spring will add 10 routes from Rīga and Vilnius and also will acquire another airplane, the company announced Jan. 30.
Starting March 1, airBaltic will fly between Rīga and Düsseldorf , Germany. Between March and May the airline also will commence flying between Rīga and Baku, Azerbaijan; Bergen, Norway; Tbilisi, Georgia; Warsaw, Poland, and Simferopol, Ukraine.
Flights also will be added between the Lithuanian capital and Stockholm, Sweden; Budapest, Hungary; Düsseldorf and Warsaw.
The additional routes will bring the total of direct airBaltic flights to 45—30 from Rīga and 15 from Vilnius.
The airline also announced it will add another Boeing 737 to its existing fleet of 15 airplanes. The new plane will be used for flights to and from Vilnius. The company did not reveal how much it is paying for the aircraft.
The airline is 52.6 percent controlled by the Republic of Latvia and 47.2 percent controlled by Scandinavian Airlines System. Last year airBaltic carried 1.04 million passengers.

I have found that trying to buy an airline ticket into and out of Riga to be a very expensive thing. So expensive, that last time (2 years ago) I travelled overland from Tallin, then overland from Riga to Vilnus. Flying to and from Riga was just toexpesive.
Has there been any changes in price? I plan on returning to Riga in a few months.
I couldn’t agree more on how expensive it is. I am actually visiting Latvia in May and am also trying to find a non-direct route for that exact same reason.
It’s diffucult to say about prices if you folks don’t say where you live ! I live in the UK. Whilst Air Baltic are not the cheapest, I certainly don’t find them ridiculously expensive. I can usually get a flight from Manchester to Riga for around £100.

Air Baltic often has very low “headline” rates, but they are of limited availability. Then the fares increase as the date approaches. Air Baltic often also has very poor rates with transfers, so flying with another carrier, e.g. BA or LH, can often give a cheaper total cost. Shop around e.g. http://www.lidot.lv
