Šomase’s first solo album comes after burglary

Liene Šomase’s first solo album, Vārdos nepateiktais, has been released on the MICREC label.
June 20, 2008
The expression on Liene Šomase’s face on the cover of her first solo effort, Vārdos nepateiktais, is a reference to the album’s title, but it could just as well be related to the shock of learning her manager’s apartment was burglarized just days before the record’s release.
Rīga-based recording house MICREC released Šomase’s album on June 16, but the same day posted a press release announcing that her manager’s apartment had been broken into four days earlier. Among items taken was a work copy of the new album that included tracks not found on the official release. I wonder how long it will be before those appear on the Internet.
The new album contains both a compact disc and a DVD. The CD has 10 tracks written by different lyricists and composers, include well-known artists such as Guntars Račs, Lauris Reiniks, Mārtiņš Freimanis and others. One of the tracks, “Bet vai tu zini?,” has music composed by the 21-year-old Šomase.
Tracks include:
- Jauna diena
- Pilsēta dejo
- Tik dīvaini tuvs
- Svešādā dzīve
- Klauns
- Slēptākās domas
- Bet vai tu zini?
- Tu esi mana mīlestība
- Get Over It
- Ugunskurs
The DVD has five videos, including the music video for “Jauna diena” and three clips from the TV3 show Dziedi ar zvaigzni (Sing With a Star), which Šomase won in November together with singing partner and Dakar Rally motorcyclist Jānis Vinters.
Vārdos nepateiktais, at first listen, is so much better than the saccharine Pasaule ir skaista, a 2007 album of Raimonds Pauls songs performed by Šomase and Jānis Moisejs.
