Philadelphia Latvian Ev. Lutheran Church of St. John
http://www.latvianluthchurchphila.org
Claiming to be the oldest Latvian Lutheran congregation in the United States, St. John's Latvian Lutheran Church is a community of about 100 families of Latvian heritage who live in the Philadelphia area of Pennsylvania. The church is the center of both Latvian cultural and religious activity. A Latvian school operates within the church grounds and other other social and cultural events such as folk dancing events, music performances, art exhibits and craft fairs are held here throughout the year. The history section of the Web site has an interesting look back at the origins of this church, which dates to 1893 with the founding of Philadelphia's Society of Free Letts and the subsequent arrival to Philadelphia of the Estonian-Latvian pastor Hans Rebāne.
