- For a fascinating insight into a Latvian colony that was established in Siberia long before the mass deportations of the 1940s, read the collection of articles and interviews maintained by Latvian historian and filmmaker Ingvars Leitis. The few remaining Latvians of Lejas Bulāna (in Russian, Nizhnyaya bulanka) still cling to their identity and insist that the village school teach Latvian. Leitis is also looking for volunteers to translate articles into English. The Web site is on a server in Latvia, but we grouped it under Russia. EN LV (Reviewed March 2000)
