Eslingena
http://www.eslingena.com/
If you didn't get a chance to see the musical "Eslingena" during the 2004 Toronto Song Festival in Canada you'll have another opportunity if you're in Rīga in July 2005. Performances are scheduled from July 8-16 in the Latvian National Theater and tickets can be ordered online using international credit cards. "Eslingena" is a historical musical based on life in the biggest Latvian Displaced Persons' camp in Esslingen, Germany, during the post-war period from 1946-1952. For an insight into the musical, why not read the storyline, listen to the songs (and read the lyrics) or view some photos? LV (Reviewed May 2005)

After sitting dormant for months on end, the Toronto-based Latvian Canadian Cultural Centre's Web site has been updated with a fresh design and new features. Chief among the latter is a members-only area that gives access to an e-mail directory and other information. For the general public, the site provides a calendar of events and background on the cultural centre. EN LV (Reviewed October 2000)

Toronto Latvian Saturday School
http://ca.geocities.com/tlbss2001/
In her opening address beginning the 52nd academic year of the Toronto Latvian Saturday School, Principal Moira Campbell summed up its collaborative spirit: "Here we don't have any bank presidents or 'Madame Ambassadors.' We are all people who have one purpose. This is a place where titles and occupations are put aside and we work as one team. This is a wonderful thing, for together we have the power to accomplish anything. Maybe this is the key of knowledge!" Find out what these third-generation Latvian kids in Toronto do most Saturday mornings, who their teachers are and who was in the graduating Class of 2001. This is one of two Latvian primary schools that operate in Toronto. The other one is called Valodiņa. Interesting future additions to the site could be samples of the children's work, more school photos or even a short video clip of a school function. EN LV (Reviewed March 2002)
