The riddle “Balts aiziet, melns atnāk” (White departs, black arrives) is one of several about day and night. Other variations include “Divas māsas, viena balta, otra mella” (Two sisters, one white, one black) and “Redzīgs tēvs, neredzīga māte” (Seeing father, blind mother).
