Iļģi releases instrumental album, plans digital sales

The latest album from Iļgī, Ej Tu dejot, is an eclectic instrumental mix of dance music.

The post-folklore band Iļģi has released its latest album, the instrumental Ej Tu dejot, the group announced April 15 on its Web site. But sharp Web surfers may have found the band previewing one track, “Rucavietis,” already on April 1 over on its MySpace page.Although billed as an album of dance music, consumers looking for a collection of traditional tunes should steer clear. Ej Tu dejot does feature some traditional-sounding tracks, but be ready for American country, Caribbean and other non-Latvian notes. Oh, I can’t wait for Iļģi’s version of “Ačkups” to be danced to at a song festival!
The 22-track album already is on sale in Latvia and, according to the band, will be available next month for sale digitally on Amazon.com and iTunes.
Read an early review on Andrejs Veitners’ Slapjais Sapnis blog or listen to “Rucavietis” on the band’s MySpace page.
