Aisha, a young and powerful pop and rock singer, has picked Gatis Zotovs as the winner of her contest for a new song, Rīga-based record company MICREC announced March 20.Zotovs, from Bauska, penned “Ja sirds prastu runāt.” A demo version of the slow-paced song, which sounds somewhat inspired by guitar rockers Līvi, can be heard on Aisha’s draugiem.lv page. I wouldn’t be surprised if when Aisha records the song, she kicks it up a notch.
Zotovs’ song was one of 84 entries from 52 contest participants.
Aisha, whose full name is Aija Andrejeva, took second in the Eirodziesma contest at the start of the month with “You Really Got Me Going,” losing the chance to represent Latvia in the Eurovision Song Contest to the embarassing Pirates of the Sea.
Aisha in 2006 teamed up with her father Oļegs Andrejevs’ band Opus Pro to record Tu un es. She now is working on a solo album due for release later this year, and Zotovs’ song is expected to be in the track listing.
Zotovs is part of the Bauska-based band Kadennce, formed in 2003. Samples of the band’s work can be heard on its draugiem.lv page, or you can turn to Apollo for some background on the group from when it was preparing to compete in the 2004 Bildes music and art festival.
