Latvia’s entry in this year’s Eurovision Song Contest will be “Wolves of the Sea,” a song performed by the costumed Pirates of the Sea. The act is composed of Aleksandra Kurusova, Roberto Meloni and Jānis Vaišļa.The trio won a total of 29,228 votes from audience members who voted by the telephone near the close of the Eirodziesma superfinal broadcast March 1 from Ventspils. The show was Webcast, too.
A total of 10 entries competed in the final. Pirates of the Sea, Aisha and Andris Ērglis made it into the superfinal. Aisha, who performed “You Really Got Me Going,” took second with a total of 22,721 votes. Ērglis and his performance of “Broken Lullaby” earned third place with 21,589 votes.
The music to “Wolves of the Sea” was composed by Swedish songwriters Jonas Liberg, Johan Sahlen, Claes Andreasson and Torbjorn Wassenius. Liborg wrote the lyrics.
This will be Meloni’s second year in a row representing Latvia. Last year he was part of the six-man Bonaparti.lv, whose members also included Ērglis.
The Eurovision Song Contest is scheduled May 20-24 in Belgrade, Serbia.
