Prāta Vētra’s newest album, Tur kaut kam ir jābūt, features cover art by Otto Zitmanis.

Rock group Prāta Vētra on May 13 released its latest album, Tur kaut kam ir jābūt (Brainstorm Records, BRCD219). The album includes 13 songs, all in Latvian. All the songs were recorded in Rīga, and the album is produced by Latvian hip hop performer Gustavo (Gustavs Butelis). Album artwork was provided by painter Otto Zitmanis.This is the band’s ninth studio album, 13th if counting the English versions of four of them.

The band has scheduled a summer 2008 tour of Latvia with the following dates: July 24, Jelgava; July 26, Preiļi; Aug. 1, Ventspils; Aug. 3, Liepāja; Aug. 7, Valmiera; and Aug. 9, Riga.The concert in Riga, at the Mežaparks stage, is planned as being “in the round.” Spectators will be able to see the concert from all sides of the stage.
An English-language version of the album, titled Fire Monkey, will be released at a later date. In the international market, Prāta Vētra is known as Brainstorm. The English version of the song “Ai nu lai” has already been released. Titled “And I Lie,” it is available online from www.doremi.lv.

Egils Kaljo is an American-born Latvian from the New York area who lives in Rīga, Latvia. When not working in the information technology field, he plays the guitar, sings in the University of Latvia Choir Juventus and does translation work for the Latvian Music Information Centre. Kaljo began listening to Latvian music as soon as he was able to put a record on a record player, and still has old Bellacord 78 rpm records lying around somewhere.
