Quoting from the site: "3x3 is the name of a series of camps that developed out of the desire of people of Latvian heritage to maintain the Latvian language and culture in their families." The camps are held in the northern and southern hemispheres every summer. "While the attendance of individuals and small family groups is the norm," the Web site continues, "attendance by the three generations of the extended family -- children, parents and grandparents -- is especially welcome." In a nutshell, the camp is meant as a "Latvian identity" booster injection. The week-long camps are held in Latvia, Great Britain, the United States, Australia and Canada. EN LV (Reviewed May 2006)

For the rest of our readers: this is a 252-acre property one hour's drive north of Toronto owned by St. John's Latvian Ev. Lutheran Church in Toronto and has been the venue for a Latvian children's summer camp for many years. The various buildings located on the property can be rented for seminars, concerts, school excursions, weddings, summer camps or religious retreats. Eslingena: http://www.eslingena.com/; If you didn't get a chance to see the musical "Eslingena" during the 2004 Toronto Song Festival in Canada you'll have another opportunity if you're in Rīga in July 2005. Performances are scheduled from July 8-16 in the Latvian National Theater and tickets can be ordered online using international credit cards. "Eslingena" is a historical musical based on life in the biggest Latvian Displaced Persons' camp in Esslingen, Germany, during the post-war period from 1946-1952. LNAK (Latvian National Federation in Canada): http://www.lnak.org/; The Web site of the Latvian National Federation in Canada (Latviešu nacionālā apvienība Kanādā, or LNAK) is not new, but has been recently revamped by Toronto-based insixmedia. The site briefly outlines the aims of the LNAK, informs of Latvian-Canadian events and provides news from Canada and Latvia. Also offered are a discussion forum that appears to be so new that it is still waiting for participants, archives of LNAK minutes and reports, an invitation to leave a legacy to the organisation and contact details for all those active members of the LNAK who have taken up positions in various capacities. LNJAK (Latvian National Youth Association in Canada): http://lnjak.org/; The Latvian National Youth Association in Canada (or LNJAK, to use the Latvian abbreviation) has had an online presence for some time, but now the organization's Web site has been moved to a new server and finally updated. Among features of the site are a calendar of events, a small directory of Web sites and a couple of photo galleries of Latvian-Canadian youth activities. There's also an off-site discussion forum. Montreālas latviešu Trīsvienības ev.-lut. draudze: http://www.draudze.org/; The Trinity Latvian Ev.-Lutheran Church in Montréal appears to be an active and progressive one and has the right idea about informing its parishioners. The Web site offers the latest church bulletin, Draudzes ziņas, and a calendar that gives an insight into the regular activities of the congregation. The church also owns a 200-acre rural retreat, Tervete, in Argenteuil County, Québec, halfway between Montréal and Ottawa. Studio “Sveiks”: http://www.latviancentre.org/sveiks/; "Sveiks" is a televison program in Canada broadcast weekly in Latvian on Toronto's CFMT, Channel 47. The programs are aired 11:30 a.m. on Saturdays and are repeated at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesdays. The show, which debuted Sept. 21, 2002, is part of a series of 13 Latvian programs. The future of the series depends in part on audience appeal. The show aim to reflect the way Latvians live in Canada today. It features interviews with famous Canadian Latvians, profiles of some of the people and groups who make up Latvian society in Canada, analysis of issues facing Latvians in Canada, music from artists who are well known both in Canada and in Latvia, a Latvian cooking segment and more. The site also has information on the energetic group of Latvians responsible for creating this program. If you have seen the first two shows, don't forget to fill out the online questionnaire. We are all people who have one purpose. This is a place where titles and occupations are put aside and we work as one team. This is a wonderful thing, for together we have the power to accomplish anything. Maybe this is the key of knowledge!" Find out what these third-generation Latvian kids in Toronto do most Saturday mornings, who their teachers are and who was in the graduating Class of 2001. This is one of two Latvian primary schools that operate in Toronto. The other one is called Valodiņa. Toronto Ziņas: http://www.torontozinas.com/; Toronto Ziņas was launched in 2000 by Canada-based writer and editor Māra Gulēna and was for many years a bilingual e-mail newsletter that informed the local Latvians of events in the Greater Toronto area and reviewed Latvian Web sites. Since then the e-zine has grown considerably and now also has its own Web site. Regular sections include Latvian news briefs, Latvia in the world press, experts' as well as readers' opinions on topical issues such as Latvia's entry into the European Union and readers' letters. As the North American summer approaches, the focus turns to Latvian summer camps and the 12th Latvian Song Festival in Canada. The content is dynamic, professional and highly informative.
