Thank you, Mr. Tom, for your prompt response.

I also took the liberty to visit your web pages. Except for some “international” words that could be replaced with Latvian, I am impressed with the excellent layout of the pages and outstanding presentation of the material covering your selected field of interest.

Best wishes for success,

Mr. L. L.

Mr LL

This is much more than a “selected field of interest.” This is our (me, my wife, parents, teachers and others) work. We want LVs children to achieve all that they can, regardless of challenges. Our projects have accomplished such things as making it possible for the first time this year for children with dyslexia and other learning disabilities to have accomodations on national tests. We also just got money from Rotary LV to publish information sheets to help parents and teachers work with these children. As I have mentioned elsewhere, my son has dyslexia, attends the regular Latvian schools and we are committed to seeing the system grow and change so that his brightness shines.

Could you please give me some examples of “international” words that could better be replaced by Latvian? When my wife writes she pretty carefully chooses to make a balance between the accepted lexicon in the field and writing the good Latvian that she studies in her PhD studies in LV literature at LU (yes I am proud).

Mr LL

And, thank you for your kind words!

Please feel free to pass along our info to anyone you know who might be interested in help or helping (financially or otherwise).

As I am not versed in linguistics, and my Latvian language use generally was limited to my first sixteen years of my life, I do not claim any accuracy to my assumptions. However, my exposure to Dr. Karlis Ulmanis’ call for use of clean Latvian language makes some modern, and not so modern, words and expressions irritate my brains. In my opinion foreign words, unless put inside quotation marks, should not be used when suitable Latvian expressions are available.

Esam izdevuši bukletu (grāmatinu) par disleksiju

vietējie resursu (atbalstu)(palīdzību) centri

izglītības pakalpojumi – testēšana (pārbaude)

grāmatu audioieraksti (skaņu ierunas)

These samples should be sufficient to illustrate my point.
