I thought it was shown in Brussels, no?

The Russia Today (sort of like the BBC but from Moscow in English) already ran a lengthy “news’ piece denouncing it. Two weeks prior, RT’s “commentator” Peter Lavelle lambasted Latvia’s language law, some weeks before he was skewering (in little commentary “asides") Edward Lucas and his new book.

RT is run by Novosti, the offical state news agency, so it’s an easy way to keep tabs on what Russia is thinking about Latvia.

You are correct on Brussles. I had seen the Mar 31 article regarding it at this forum, but heard nothing further regarding any reactions or critique. The Russian reaction is no surprise - in that the official take is that the Soviet regime was okay. I saw briefly this a.m. that a torch will be arriving in Winnipeg today regarding the Ukrainian famine anniversary. The news item made brief mention that Ukrainian communties have submitted to the UN that the famine be considered a genocide. I wonder if any of those motions will ever see any real deliberation at the official level? Probably too broad a subject - and more than likely would cause some to believe this is an ethnic question. It should actually be labeled as the evaluation of an oppressive multi-national/ethnic regime.

It’s coming to Latvia some time in May, I think.

The Soviet Story premiers on Monday, May 5, at the Cinema Riga. It’ll be shown there until, ahem, May 8.

I’m guessing it wasn’t this particular documentary then ?

Or is that not a documentary that they’d want aired too often?

I didn’t realize that some of the Forest Brothers were still out there fighting long after the war ended;and now...so many gone, ‘palikusi tikai dazi sirm galvi’; it was good to hear the song/melody ‘Skirsanas’ played on the kokle, zither(?) couldn’t tell… an old song my father used to sing and that I picked up from him.

Plus the added bonus of ‘Lacplesis’ (Bear Slayer) and ‘Ardievu Divdesmitai G’ all on the same Youtube page.  Thanks, Speedkuff!
