My Mother Eufrosina Marija Meirans, also known as Sonja; Her parents Eufrosina and Vladimir Meirans. Her Brother/ step brother Jevgeny. Other family and relatives unknown. I will travel to Latvia this year with my son and visit Pilda.

My mother was born in the Pilda region around 1925 and so possibly christened at the local Church. I think she was Catholic. At the age of around 7-9 years, she lost her mother who is beleived to have died from TB. It is possible that she is buried at Pilda or even Ludza. Most likely Catholic Church.

My Mother moved to Riga with her family when she was about 12 or 13 in order to attend High school. She believed her Father was taken prisoner by the Germans, transported and executed in Auschwicz camp. Her brother aslo fought in the war but never returned. She always assumed he had been killed in action but never had confirmation.

Mother moved via Germany to UK as a displaced person, met my father Roy Grantham and had 4 children - Roy, me Victor, Barbara and Andrea. We all moved to Australia in 1965. Mother died in 1993 in Adelaide South Australia.

As the Germans occupied Latvia (1941-1944/45) all street names were converted into German. This translation is based on former german translation. Thus it is very heavy to assign street names at that time to the today’s names or backwards.
I own a city plan of Riga from the year 1925 and a street guide German-Latvian, Latvian -German. This city plan covers Vec Riga and the downtown on the right and left side of the Daugava river. Additonal I own an city guide from 1943 (what an anacronism, who needs that at this time peroid? The only peoples who are traveling were soldiers and refugees). This guide includes all adresses of the German occupation administration.
