Lecture honors poet Gūtmanis

Arvids Biela will present a lecture honoring the poet Olafs Gūtmanis at 14:00 hours April 19 at Saule Ltd. (Latvian House), 24 Church Court, Buranda. This event, which will include readings of Gūtmanis’ poetry, is hosted by the Literary Society of the Brisbane Latvian Association. Admission by donation.

Raisters Fund laureate announced

Vilnis Baumanis will be honored at the annual Ēriks Raisters Memorial Fund function at 2 p.m. April 19 at Priedaine, 1017 Highway 33 East, Freehold. Baumanis, known for his central role in the musical ensemble Trīs no Pārdaugavas, will read his own humorous poetry at the event. Dūdalnieki celebrate 25th anniversary

The Latvian folk music group Dūdalnieki will celebrate its 25th aniversary at 17:30 hours April 19 at the Daugavas Vanagi Fund House - Bradford, 5 Clifton Villas, Bradford, West Yorkshire. The evening will begin with a concert by Dūdalnieki, the Leeds Latvian dance group Kamoliņš and guest folk group Grodi from Latvia. Estonian president to speak at U.S.-Baltic Foundation gala

President of Estonia Toomas Hendrik Ilves, guest of honor and keynote speaker at the 2008 U.S.-Baltic Foundation Celebration, will speak at 6 p.m. April 19 in the Renaissance Mayflower Hotel, 1127 Connecticut Ave NW, Washington, D.C. The celebration will headline a three-day series of Baltic cultural and business development events on April 18- 20.
