- Sergejs Jēgers to sing in Toronto
Counter-tenor Sergejs Jēgers will perform at 2 p.m. March 30 in the Glenn Gould Studio, Canadian Broadcasting Centre, 250 Front St. W., Toronto. Jēgers is a graduate of the Latvian Academy of Music and continued his studies with Andreas Scholl at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis in Switzerland. His repertoire includes Handel’s “Messiah,” Pergolesi’s “Stabat Mater” and cantatas by Bach and Vivaldi. His opera appearances include the Angel in Rubinstein’s “The Demon,” the title role in Handel’s “Rinaldo” and Orpheus in Gluck’s “Orpheus and Euridice.” This will be Jēgers’ debut recital in Canada, and he will be accompanied by Toronto pianist Īrisa Purene. - Preserving Jaunsudrabiņš’ memory
Ilze Līduma, the director of the Jānis Jaunsudrabiņš museum in Nereta, Latvia, will speak at 14:00 hours March 30 at the Latvian Retirement Village, 60 Fraser Crescent, Wantirna South. Admission is by donation. All proceeds will benefit the museum.
