3x3 nometne Malnavā

Malnavieši lepojas ar savas puses vēsturi, sakopto vidi, tīru gaisu un mežiem, kas priecē un dod miera sajūtu. 3x3 nometnieki tiks izmitināti studentu viesnīcā turpat Malnavas koledžas teritorijā. Skolā ir plašas mācību telpas, sporta zāle un darbnīcas, kurās varēs darboties nometnes dalībnieki. Nometnes tēma: mūsu spēka avoti. Senā parka Mīlestības kalniņā daudzinās tēvus. Nometnes laikā būs iespēja doties arī tālākos ceļos, iepazīstot tās puses ļaudis. Katru dienu darbosies vairāk nekā 30 ievirzes gan pieaugušajiem, gan bērniem, kuras vadīs Latvijā un pasaulē pazīstami lektori. Zināšanas varēs paplašināt ģimeņu seminārā, folkloras, literatūras un valodas, vēstures un politikas, veselības psiholoģijas u.c. ievirzēs. Prasmes varēs pilnveidot seno rotu, keramikas, kļavlapu un doņu cepuru gatavošanas, gleznošanas u.c. darbnīcās. Varēs sacerēt pasakas, gatavot latviskus ēdienus, spēlēt teātri, sportot, mācīties skaisti iekārtot māju, spriest par vides problēmām, veidot animācijas filmu, utt. Vakara programmas būs domātas visai ģimenei, pēc tam varēs lekt dančus vai dziedāt senajā muižas klētī. Tā kā 6. jūlijā Rīgā notiks Dziesmu svētku dalībnieku gājiens, tad nometnes vadītāji rūpēsies, lai visi interesenti laikus ierastos atpakaļ Rīgā. Tautiešu mēnesis 2008

Tautiešu mēnesis takes place this summer from July 2-18 at various locations in Rīga and the rest Latvia. The event is hosted by the Secretariat of the Special Assignment Minister for Social Integration. Take part in a variety of discussions and conferences, attend special concerts and art shows and enjoy a week of Latvian films. The huge Latvian song festival and all of its accompanying events take place during Tautiešu mēnesis as well. Global gathering at Lido

Meet Latvians from around the world from 12:00-16:00 hours July 3 at the popular restaurant and entertainment complex Lido, Krasta iela 76, Rīga. This informal annual gathering is organized by the Latvian Cultural Association TILTS and is included among this year’s Tautiešu mēnesis events. July 04–05
Seminar for diaspora school teachers

Teachers in all Latvians schools abroad are invited to participate in a seminar hosted by the National Agency for Latvian Language Training (Latviešu valodas apguves valsts aģentūra, or LVAVA) and the World Federation of Free Latvians (Pasaules brīvo latviešu apvienība, or PBLA) from July 4-5 at the Rīga Lithuanian Secondary School, Prūšu iela 42a, Rīga. Teachers from all areas of the diaspora—new and old, east and west—will gather to discuss common problems and solutions, share ideas, and learn about new teaching materials and methods. Latvian National Song and Dance Festival

The Latvian National Song and Dance Festival is scheduled July 5-12 in Rīga. Choirs, folk ensembles and dance troupes from around Latvia—as well as from Latvian communities abroad—will participate in the event, which is held every five years. 3x3 nometne Zaļeniekos

3x3 nometne notiks no 13. lidz 20.jūlijam Zaļeniekos. Jelgavas rajonā Zaļeniekos nometnes darbības vieta būs pagasta centrā, kur blakus atrodas Zaļenieku arodskola ar dienesta viesnīcu, pamatskola, bērnudārzs, bibliotēka, tautas nams un baznīca. Nometnē būs ap 45 dažādas ievirzes, kurās varēs apgūt zinības, kas noderēs latviskuma kopšanai. Būs nodarbības gan rokām, gan prātam. Danči, dziedāšana un nodarbības maziem bērniem un jauniešiem. Rotu kalšana, vēsture, latviešu valoda un literatūra, folklora, teātris, vilku mācība, dabas iepazīšana, alus brūvēšana, dzimtas vēstures pētīšana un citas ievirzes aicina dalībniekus no bērna kājas līdz sirmam vecumam. Nometnes vadītājs Andris Tomašūns īpaši plānojis vairākus pasākumus, lai izceltu nometnes moto Atvases. Jelgavnieks Modris Ziemelis paredzējis atklāt Zaļenieku arodskolā piemiņas plāksni savam tēvam, ko padomju vara represējusi kā skolēnu pretošanas grupas vadītāju pēc Otrā pasaules kara. Rakstniece Anna Žīgure vēlas uzlikt piemiņas akmeni savai vecaimātei Elzai Stērstei nopostīto māju vietā. Ir iecere atjaunot Zaļenieku pils muzeja ekspozīciju un atbalstīt Lilianas Štaueres centienus izdot grāmatu par Zaļenieku pagasta literātiem. Arheologs Guntis Zemītis un dabas pētnieks Guntis Eniņš aicinās izrakumos un talkās pils parkā, avotu vietu sakopjot. Īpašs veltījums būs dzejniecei Aspazijai. Būs ekskursijas ar noslēgumu Tērvetē. Nīkšanas laikā darbosies kafejnīca pilī, nakts dančus vadīs Ilga Reizniece. Būs lauku pirts. Un noslēgumā - gan izstādes, gan pašu veidots koncerts. Interesenti var pieteikties, raktot uz adresi . Family field trip and meeting

The Danish-Latvian Association is organizing its annual meeting along with an excursion on May 17 at Labyrinthia, Gl. Ryvej 2, Rodelund, Silkeborg Syd, Them. Learn about the history of the labyrinth park beginning at 10:00 hous. The Danish-Latvian Association meeting will begin at 11:00 hours. Bring along a picnic lunch to eat around noon, and after that participants will be free to socialize and explore the park at their own pace. “Rīgas sargi” in Minneapolis

The feature film Rīgas sargi, which takes place one day in November 1919 during the Latvian War of Independence, will be screened at 12:30 p.m. May 18 in the Parkway Theatre, 4814 Chicago Ave. S., Minneapolis. The film, a box office hit in Latvia, was released in 2007 and is directed by Aigars Grauba. The film is in Latvian with English subtitles. Admission is USD 10. The screening is sponsored by the Latvian Organization Association of Minnesota.

Saulaine Spring Festival

The sixth annual Saulaine Spring Festival will take place 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 24 at Camp Saulaine, 5813 20th Sideroad, Utopia (one hour north of Toronto). The festival will take place rain or shine. Admission and parking are free. Attractions include a pancake breakfast, a barbeque lunch, a sweets table, free entertainment, a book store, a garage sale and plant sale, an old coin table, vendors and kids’ activities. Rehearsals for West Coast festival

In preparation for the West Coast Latvian Song Festival, rehearsals for choirs and folk dance ensembles are scheduled May 24-25 in the Latvian Community Center, 1955 Riverside Drive, Los Angeles, and the Latvian Ev. Lutheran Church of Southern California, 1927 Riverside Drive, Los Angeles. Rehearsals run from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on May 24. Folk dance ensembles will rehearse May 25 from 9:30 a.m. to noon and from 2-4 p.m., while choirs will rehearse just from 2-4 p.m.

Championship games in Chicago

The 55th annual American Latvian Association championship games in basketball, volleyball and ice hockey will take place May 24-25 in Chicago. A bistro night, sponsored by the West Coast Latvian Song Festival’s organizing committee, is scheduled at 6:30 p.m. May 25 in the Latvian Community Center, 1955 Riverside Drive, Los Angeles. The event include dinner, dancing and a preview of song festival performances. Tickets at USD 50 for the general public, USD 30 for song festival participants and USD 20 for students. 2x2 seminar

A week-long 2x2 seminar for Latvian youth ages 18-30 is scheduled May 29-June 6 at the Miracle Camp Retreat Center, 25281 80th Ave., Lawton. The seminar will include a selection of lecture-oriented topics and hands-on projects, many led by well-known members of the Latvian community. Among topics planned are culture, psychology, Latvia today, journalism, music and living in Latvia. Among projects are Latvian cuisine, folk dancing and ceramics. Cost of the seminar is USD 450. AABS conference in Bloomington

The 21st Conference on Baltic Studies, hosted by the American Association of Baltic Studies (AABS), will take place from May 29 to June 1 at Indiana University in Bloomington. The conference theme will be “Baltic Crossroads: Examining Cultural, Social and Historical Diversity” and will include more than 100 panelists from a variety of disciplines. ‘Vogelfrei’ screened in Sydney festival

The feature film Vogelfrei, in which four Latvian directors examine a day in the life of a man at four stages in his life, will be screened during the 55th Sydney Film Festival. The showings are at 4:20 p.m. June 7 in the Greater Union George Street, 505-525 George St., Sydney, and at 6:30 p.m. June 10, also in Greater Union George Street. The 92-minute film is in Latvian and Russian. Directors Jānis Kalējs, Gatis Šmits, Jānis Putniņš and Anna Viduleja will be present to discuss the film. Jāņi at Priedaine

Celebrants of Midsummer (Jāņi) will be welcomed starting at 4 p.m. June 21 at Priedaine, 1017 Highway 33 East, Freehold.
