Culture minister to stay on, while government considers its options
The Latvian government may only need to fill three ministerial seats, not five, because one minister has decided to stay on and the ruling coalition is considering breaking up another minister’s duties.
Culture Minister Ints Dālderis said March 19 that he will not join other People’s Party (Tautas partija) members who are quitting. The People’s Party announced March 17 that it is withdrawing from the coalition government led by Prime Minister Valdis Dombrovskis.

Latviešu skolas diasporā un to izaicinājumi mūsdienās
Publicēts 2010.02.22
Nule apritējuši 60 gadi kopš visai sarežģītos apstākļos ASV, Kanādā, Austrālijā un citās valstīs pārvietoto personu kārtā ieceļojušie latvieši izveidoja skolas, kuru uzdevums bija uzturēt un saglabāt latviešu valodu un kultūru svešumā. Šobrīd, jāuzsver gan, ka ļoti atšķirīgos apstākļos, šāds izceļošanas vilnis no Latvijas ir sācies no jauna.

Next time, let’s just buy an Olympic commercial
February 13, 2010
For fans of the Latvian team competing in the Winter Olympics, the gains of Salt Lake City have been eroded by what happened Feb. 12 in Vancouver. Just as in previous Olympics, the American television network NBC cut away for a commercial during the moments Latvian athletes—with skeletonist Martins Dukurs carrying the maroon-white-maroon flag—were due to enter Olympic Stadium as part of the opening ceremony.
