Speech given by Mrs. Nancy Pelosi,
Speaker of the US House of Representatives, last week in Wash. DC

Published: October 22, 2006

Nancy Pelosi condemned the new record highs of the stock market as “just another example of Bush policies helping the rich get richer”.

“First Bush cut taxes for the rich and the economy has rebounded with new record low unemployment rates, which only means wealthy employers are getting even wealthier at the expense of the underpaid working class”.

She went on to say “Despite the billions of dollars being spent in Iraq our economy is still strong and government tax revenues are at all time highs. “What this really means is” that business is exploiting the war effort and working Americans, just to put money in their own pockets”.

When questioned about recent stock market highs she responded “Only the rich benefit from these record highs. Working Americans, welfare recipients, the unemployed and minorities are not sharing in these obscene record highs”.

“There is no question these windfall profits and income created by the Bush administration need to be taxed at 100% rate and those dollars redistributed to the poor and working class”.

“Profits from the stock market do not reward the hard work of our working class who, by their hard work, are responsible for generating these corporate profits that create stock market profits for the ri ch.

We in congress will need to address this issue to either tax these profits or to control the stock market to prevent this unearned income to flow to the rich”.

When asked about the fact that over 80% of all Americans have investments in mutual funds, retirement funds, 401K’s, and the stock market she replied “That may be true, but probably only 5% account for 90% of all these investment dollars. That’s just more “trickle down” economics claiming that if a corporation is successful that everyone from the CEO to the floor sweeper benefit from higher wages and job security which is ridiculous”. How much of this “trickle down” ever get to the unemployed and minorities in our county? None, and that’s the tragedy of these stock market highs.”

“We democrats are going to address this issue after the election when we take control of the congress. We will return to the 60% to 80% tax rates on the rich and we will be able to take at least 30% of all current lower Federal Income Tax taxpayers off the roles and increase government income substantially. We need to work toward the goal of equalizing income in our country and at the same time limiting the amount the rich can invest.”

When asked how these new tax dollars would be spent, she replied “We need to raise the standard of living of our poor, unemployed and minorities. For example, we have an estimated 12 million illegal immigrants in our country who need our help along with millions of unemployed minorities. Stock market windfall profits taxes could go a long ways to guarantee these people the standard of living they would like to have as “Americans”

A Bush spokesman responded to this interview by saying “Mrs. Pelosi has set a new standard for the spin business”.

She is almost as scary as Hillary. Feeling smarter yet?

I wish Nancy would give us her definition of “rich” and then start her blather.

House Speaker-Elect Nancy Pelosi has hand-picked the following to be the point-man of the United States Congress, this person is conceivably the one responsible for carrying America’s message to the countries of the world that hold the USA in disregard:

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Is al Qaeda a Sunni organization, or Shi’ite?

The question proved nettlesome for Rep. Silvestre Reyes of Texas, incoming Democratic chairman of the House of Representatives Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence.

“Predominantly—probably Shi’ite,” he said in a recent interview with Congressional Quarterly, a periodical that covers political and legislative issues in Congress.

Unfortunately for Reyes, the al Qaeda network led by Osama bin Laden is comprehensively Sunni and subscribes to a form of Sunni Islam known for not tolerating theological deviation.

In fact, U.S. officials blame al Qaeda’s former leader in Iraq, the late Abu Musab al Zarqawi, for the surge in sectarian violence between Sunnis and Shi’ites.

But Reyes’ problems in the interview didn’t end with al Qaeda.

Asked to describe the Lebanese militant group Hezbollah, Congressional Quarterly said Reyes responded: “Hezbollah. Uh, Hezbollah,” and then said, “Why do you ask me these questions at five o’clock?”

Reyes’ office issued a statement on Monday noting that the Congressional Quarterly interview covered a wide range of topics.

“As a member of the intelligence committee since before 9/11, I’m acutely aware of al Qaeda’s desire to harm Americans. The intelligence committee will keep its eye on the ball and focus on the pressing security and intelligence issues facing us,” Reyes said in the statement.

A former border patrol agent and a congressional opponent of the Iraq war, the Texas congressman was chosen for the chief intelligence job by House Speaker-designate Nancy Pelosi.

Well I’ll be??!  Is nothing sacred anymore. Can’t even believe a “believable” news clip. Thanks for posting and clearing up such a fallacy. Still, I do not like Nancy Pelosi.

Arija,

Whether Pelosi deserves to be liked or not is not really the issue. Whether or not the democrats have a plan which would benefit more people is.
The Republicans, from where I sit, have done little. Nothing trickling down my way. No tide lifting my boat. Maybe your income is 369 times mine. Alas, I am stuck at 3% annual increase and bitter about it. Seems lots of people share my bitterness. :(

From http://www.financialexpress-bd.com/index3.asp?cnd=12/15/2006&section_id=4&newsid=46775&spcl=no

Money quote:

“The portion of national income earned by the top 20 percent of households grew to 50.4 percent last year, up from 45.6 percent 20 years ago; the bottom 60 percent of U.S. households received 26.6 percent, down from 29.9 percent in 1985, according to the Census Bureau. Meanwhile, average pay for corporate chief executive officers rose to 369 times that of the average worker last year, according to finance professor Kevin Murphy of the University of Southern California; that compares with 131 times in 1993 and 36 times in 1976. “

Dear Edigu,

Don’t blame poor Reyes. He was probably just briefed by the outgoing Chairman who got all of his intel straight from the White House.
And what’s this about cross dressers? I figured you for a kilt wearing man?

Well Edigu, Reyes isn’t leading us into a war not knowing that Iraq consitutes Sunnis, Shi’ites and Kurds. Your leader Bush didn’t know this simply fact before he made the biggest US blunder in US history.  Reyes only needs to know how to get the troops home and preceed with War Crimes for Bush, Cheney and Company.  They should have the same fate as the Nuremberg war mongers who also started an unlawful war in 1939 following the exact political roadmap - lying and deceiving their democratic republic.

And if Arija wants to know who the rich are - there is nobody on LOL who qualifies for Bush’s Tax cuts that I am aware of - so, there should be no Republicans on LOL unless you are making over $300K per year and/or have net worth in excess of $5 million.  Those under that are getting screwed.  Arija’s only reason for being Republican was that Nixon didn’t like the commies - but thats where the link between Republicans and the emigres ends.  Even Soros who does benefit from Bush’s tax cuts knows better than to be Republican.

Seeing that we are talking politics, I thought I should give my two cents worth.
My first experience started when I supported Barry Golwater. I was told by some of my friends that if I voted for him that there would be a war. I defied them and sure enough we were at war in Viet Nam. It is all my fault. Unlike the deserter president, I served with pride in San Antonio Texas and Denver Colorado to make sure those commies didn’t sneak in. I was happy when the light at the end of the tunnel showed up for I was a medic and my job was to take care of the many returning soldiers who had their butts shot off (it is one of the highest part of your body when you are hugging the ground).
While faithfully working I learned all about the global economy and how the rest of the world is progressing and catching up to us. I then got a shock when we were sold to another company and my dream of retiring at 57 was lost due to wage cuts and pension changes. After they bled us and saw that we were not giving any more, they announced that they were closing us down and moving the work south to a non union plant. I took advantage of all my free time by researching the stock market and seeing what it was doing. When I left with my severance pay, I also took my 401k and put it in another 401k which I had control of.
I agree with the idiot in the White House about investing retirement money in the stock market. I did it. Every time a person buys a Maytag ( now changed owners and is shutting down the Iowa plants) appliance it is good for me because I have a Chinese Mutual fund that has stock in the Chinese company that makes them in Shanghai (communist China has a stock market??). Dreyfus DCPAX so far this year has paid me a 69% return this year. When you call a help desk and an Indian answers, think of it as money in my pocket for Greater India ETGIX gave me a 33% return. When you travel through Latvia and buy gasoline or use a Russian cell phone, think of me for ING Russia LETRX paid me 62.5% return. I think LUKOIL has several stations in New York and is bidding on some 100 stations in Europe. My mutual funds cover almost all the companies that manufacture for the US. The hard part is every December they disperse Capital Gains Tax and dividends and I have to figure out what to do with the thousands of extra dollars just before Christmas (dang, I upgraded my wife’s car last year).
What does all of this have to do with the thread? I don’t make the $300,000 so I don’t get the tax breaks so they can go. One person doesn’t pass a law so until it is passed by Congress and signed by the Prez it is in LALA land.
Why are we all of a sudden wondering about the Democrats plans, The Republicans controlled Congress for such a long time and all we got out of them is how to avoid taking blame for getting caught playing with boys and spreading the wealth among the wealthy and rubberstamping the Prez’s Iraq plans.

Andrej, I have no income-zip, zero, nada. I’m retired (unless you call Soc.Sec. income). Of course liking Nancy Pelosi is not an issue. I threw that in just for good measure because I really do not like her.

True, Nixon’s anti communist stance did sway me toward Republicans. I actually liked Truman very much before that because he opened the doors for us DP’s to immigrate here. However, during my 56 years here I cannot remember any Dem. president who I liked or with whose platform I could agree. I’m sure you all idolize Kennedy, but I lived in Miami 34 years and listened to my friends talk about the Bay of Pigs sell-out when their fathers were promised air support if they went to fight Castro, but got none. So, no I do not even like Kennedy.
So that’s why became a Republican. Now if I have to have a $300,000 annual income to be one, then for sure I don’t qualify. Even though I’m not under the bridge just yet, I just can’t vote Democrat. They played so dirty during this administration, I just don’t trust any of them.
