Watched from the US.  What spirited team with heart. Fantastic!

BTW, Lietuva against the US in basketball showed the same last week, albeit with a narrow loss.

I can’t watch these things!  Too nerve-wracking!  But the joy of the athletes and their fans made it worth the ulcer.

Urra!

I gush one more time.It is quite an accomplishment for a country of 2.3 nillion people
to become the no.3 ranked(proven)in the world.
I do not recall them missing a single serve.
It may turn out to be the only medal we, all of us(diaspora and home)will get,I hope not,
but not longer blanked in the medal standings.

You beauty!!! ... fan-bloody-tastic!!!

Maris Strombergs is looking great at the moment ... has to be another medal coming up there.

(The only reason his events were shown on our tv was because their were aussies in the races too.
Nothing on the volleyball .. didn’t crack a mention, while I was watching)

maris, and here I thought the US was the most nationalistically-centered broadcast.  Then again, I doubt the Latvian beach volleyball team would have gotten as much interest as it did if it had not bumped the US.  But because it did, “Latvia” trended amazingly high after the quarter-final game.

As to the men’s BMX - I believe LV/Maris won the gold medal last time.

Yes ... and I hope he does it again.

But he’s up against aussie Sam Willoughby .. the local press a while ago speculated that the two would be the main contenders.

“A LONG night in the Australian Olympic team’s recovery centre should take away most of the pain BMX rider Khalen Young is feeling after crashing in the quarter-finals overnight.
Thankfully the world No 17 from Western Australia eventually made it through to tomorrow’s semi-finals, along with South Australia’s world No 1 Sam Willoughby.

“It would’ve been nice to be pain free for the semis tomorrow but that’s part and parcel of BMX. I’ll go get some work on me a little bit and recharge the batteries for tomorrow,” Young said”
The Australian

Go Go Go Latvia.
