I was having dinner last night in the Quiet Center at this new Asian place when I noticed a gaggle (is it a gaggle?) of young men marching along the sidewalk. The men looked like football fans, heading out to the game in the nearby Skonto stadium. The last in the gaggle were two female municipal police officers and a police van that slowly followed the stream of football fans from Croatia.

A moment later, on the corner of Antonijas and Dzirnavu, this had happened. Quiet Center no more, as a Russian tourist said.

Aleksejs,
Just imagine what would have happened after the Occupation with people other than the people of “the singing revolution.”

What? I’m sorry I had something crazy in my eyes. Say it again. As you can see, no one got scared or hid under the table. People went about their business. I pulled out my iPod.

PS I thought it was the Soviet occupancy… no?

Capital ‘O’, Alyosha! Couldn’t the Occupation Religion get some sort of tax-exempt status and prosper, like Scientology?

I say tom-ah-toe, you say ‘occupancy’...

I see a musical.
