English text: Not long ago 56% of Latvians supported Latvia as a sovereign nation. Only 25% remained indifferent. Nevertheless, the Latvian pafrliament voted for surrendering Latvian sovereignty to Brussels. See links for details.

Heady Days for Loss of Latvian Sovereignty 2

The EU is ‘dranging’ (from German ‘drang’ to push) for a Federated Europe under the leadership of Princess Merkel (the Great), Holland (the Lame French Socialist PM), Nato Chief More Lebensraum Rasmussen, with the Latvian Defense Minister Nice Pabriks leading (if he only could) the cabal of European pro-federalist wannabies.

The Latvian government (a paganka kleptokrācija if there ever was one) is now turning its attentions to absconding with Latvian sovereignty in the name of economic survival. For all the fears and dangers of a total economic demise, the Latvian government has never held a public debate about economic alternatives, but is in full support of this ‘drang’—to abandon national sovereignty.

While the alternatives to the economic survival of Latvia are controversial ones, because sovereignty may (it may so turn out) be maintained ONLY at the price of and practice of a subsistence economy (but keeping all Latvians in their country); the surrender of sovereignty to a vacant promise of “better days are coming” appears that more promising to those in power. As one famous Latvian Prime Minister once said: “How can I not promise them [the destitute 99%] a better life?”

Nothing has changed since “freedom” was first compromised (about 1993), except that Europe is that much closer to financial and economic collapse.

Mr. LL, whose post (above), I find in some ways in solidarity with my stance, is because of his fears of Moscow actually committed to the Latvian kleptokrācija. Would he consider that bargaining with Moscow may, in the long run, be more profitable to Latvia, than bargaining away sovereignty to Brussels? After all, bargaining does not commit one to surrender sovereignty, an existential necessity for the survival of a Latvian community.

Kandž,
Why choose one “devil” over another? You of all people should recognize the limits of this binary dualism you have set up as a false choice for LV between the western devil or the one from the east. Why not pursue a third way?

Into,
My grandfather used to say, when the family criticized him for working too long hours, “Do not spare me, but spare my Devil!”.
I believe that Latvians need to spare their Devil, not find fault with the Devil. But to use the Devil, one has to realize that he has his own energies, and plans, and geopolitical outlook. I do not see tha the current Latvian crew of EU comissars, Piebalgs and other ‘‘sniny suits’ have any vision of the future, but to catch the wake of the EU Titanic.

I am convinced that the “Third Way” you suggest exists, but we need to develop our own community more. This is not currently being done. The oligarchs, as I see it, are fake Latvians, or “Latvian zaķi (truši)”, as so many ‘reformers’ come to replace a minor screw in the rusty works, then get paid with a limousine for the job.

In the long run, I believe that Latvia has more in common with Russia than the Northwest of Europe, now waging yet another Western-NATO war on Syria, with sights set well beyond.

However, we need to strengthen our communal ties and become more cohesive. This is one reason why I concentrate on the coming Midsummers New Year of Johns 2012. I would stretch Mr Nice Pabriks on the coals of our Johnsfire, perhaps Zatlers and Repshe will also are fine sacrificial assets. After all, Mr. Adolfs Buķis, who saw the corruption and betrayal of Latvia in 1993 and gave his life as seal the perception, too, demanded a THIRD WAY.

The THIRD WAY, IMO, is to begin a long-term dialogue in the public arena betweem the EAST and the WEST, with Latvia acting the role of the moderator. May the Latvian Devil save us from Zatlers, or VVF, or some such becoming moderators.

Nothing in the world will persuade me that the WEST will prevail over the next 100 of Europe’s geopolitical future as it has in the past 100 years. I will be happy to participate in such a discussion, and believe that LOL can play a role, because no other Latvian media provides an arena. Unfortunately, there are American-born Latvian descendants, who believe that the “soul” of Latvia is buried in some American, Australian, or Canadian foggy bottom.

Pure Jaņdžs. Rising to the defense of murderous dictators, fanatical religionists and “populism” everywhere—especially places he’s never even been to.

Well, when i was a little tyke, i reconed that the soul was at the bottom
of “Devils lake” or “Velnacis”, as known locally….......
This was just a little pond in Ogres Blue mountains…..........or hills.
It was unusual, because it would not have any algae in it.
And it had a light shining from it’s bottom.
One day i got real brave and waded
in to find that the light came from a pocket mirror.
Can’t imagine anyone throwing something like that away.
One couldn’t go to school without a comb, hankie and a
pocket mirror…..............
Maybe that’s where the soul is?

In the absense of self-sacrifice at the government level;
(the PM continues to polish his career for a posting in Brussels,
at the expense of the nation) the break-down of Latvia continues:

As shills for government destroy coherent discussions at LOL, others take the opportunity to think the situation through to its logical conclusion:

Read and weep for Latvia.
