Pehteris C.,
So, “valsts vara” is at fault for everything and not “the people of Latvia” who aren’t reading, buying, using the Latvian language and thereby not creating a demand for “Latvian literature?”  I feel your pain, “Latvian rakstnieki.”  Here’s a possible solution.  I suppose you, Pehteris C., don’t want to ask Aleks with his rare symmetrical bilingualism to translate this article into Russian for the 250,000 +  “par” krievu valodu people in Latvia?  You or Repse could take this news about the plight of neglected Latvian literature and Latvian writers to Chas and Vesti Segodnya to see if some of “the people of Latvia” (not a real tauta or nation) - who we have been informed by you are reading more than “Latvians” - could ask their parallel valsts with their SC representatives (and Linderman) to appropriate more money for Latvian language publishing.  Maybe Aleks could include a solicitation asking that “par” people actually buy “Latvian” books and literature. Of course, they should understand that no one is really requiring them to do this, certainly not you, Repse, Kazoka, U. Berzins,  other long-suffering Latvians.  And this is not a J. Kukainis of PBLA loyalty test that would align one’s “par” vote with behavior that demonstrates that, see, no harm to the Latvian langauge was ever intended by one’s “par” vote.  Another idea: Have you ever thought about waging an attack on Linderman to expose his harm to Latvia like you have with Ulmanis?  Put this in Chas and Vesti.

I think Repse has not been reading Kazoka.
“Latvians should stop thinking of themselves in ethnic and language categories [bold mine] and together consider important questions about the development of the state for the next eight years,” said Iveta Kazoka of Providus centre for public policy.

It also looks like Kazoka hasn’t had time to get this wisdom of hers to “all the people of Latvia” like Linderman and to broadcast this through Chas, Vesti Segodnya, etc. what with the Russian language referendum that was initiated and supported by Russian-speaking ethnic Russians [bold mine].

Maybe Repse should ask Linderman and Moscow to exclusively bankroll their next referednum in Latvia and not take any money from Latvia’s state coffers so Latvian literature could get more. Maybe Kazoka should ask Linderman, Moscow, Latvia’s Russians to just cut out these (to some but not PC) disloyal distractions.

Ai, ai. So much here to (not) respond to amidst the run-on puņķi. It would be insufferably boring to try yet again to suggest that pointing at Russkies every time Latvian failures are brought up is not only silly but pathetic and… well, sick. As I’ve suggested before—why don’t you buy books and contribute to the language instead of “defending the language” by whining about “occupants” from the Wolverine State? You might even read the books. But then you wouldn’t be you, would you?

As to the harm Linderman does—huh? How has he done any harm to your country of the mind? He gave ethnic Letts a golden opportunity to slip back in time and pretend that if we would all just feel the love, and get high on a superficial, defensive solidarity, everything will turn out hunky-dory. That oughta turn you on. Building something, and/or feeding a living language, might unfortunately be a bit harder than uniting in the face of provocations. Woe is me.

P.S. I won’t bother to point out yet again that SC is not and has never been in government. Valsts vara is exclusively Latvian, ethnically and rather ethnocratically, and has been for two decades. I’m really sorry that you can’t take responsibility for it—but, then, you are an anonymous troll who perhaps doesn’t even possess Latvian citizenship.
