To see some of our “wild leaps of illogic”
come visit us at Melnays Jānis @ http://melnaysjanis.blogspot.com/

If you are attending the “3x3” camp in Mazsalaca this weekend,
I hear that you will visit the offices of The Family Tree.
I will be visiting there, too.
Incidentally, “Temple Melnays Janis” or Temple Black John is only 14 km from Mazsalaca.

Come visit us at “Melnays Jānis” @ http://melnaysjanis.blogspot.com/
We do not have little silver trout, but some gold carp growing.
Here is a W.B. Yeats Poem called “The Song of Wandering Angus”.
Translated to Latvian it means: “Jāņa Ceļotāja dziesma”.

A friend took me back to this take/counterpoint/tangent [1]—but so the swallow flew.

A Hindu temple in London costing 16 million British pounds is a long way from our humble attempt here in Latvia to build a private temple. However, looking at the BBC post, I am reminded that the Hindu Ganesh (the God with the elephant trunk) is a cognate of the name John and the Latvian “Jahnis”. In its Saturday, August 14th issue, the Latvian newspaper „Diena” [suspect for some time to be the voice of the neo-capitalist right wing (Šķēle, Šlesers, Ulmanis, et al)], published a „questionnaire” under the heading „Politics with a tone of religion” (Politika ar reliģisku pieskaņu). All six men interviewed, politicians of as many political parties, came out for politics in religion and religion in politics. The most cited reason for collaboration is that collaboration of church with state has a long tradition. The first politicians, one Cilevičs, describes this “tradition” as one where one “should not build a fence” [between the state and religion]. The last helped the newspaper “Diena” to identify itself with the Bible. Said Šmits: “We will encourage the teaching of the Bible until High School.” (Rosināsim obligātu Bībeles mācību līdz pat vidusskolai). The politicians are:

Boriss Cilevičs (SC)
Dzintars Rasnačs (VL-TB/LNNK)
Juris Sokolovskis (LPCTVL
Aleksejs Loskutovs (V)
Staņislavs Šķesteris (ZZS)
Jānis Šmits (PPL)

The newspaper aiding the missionaries is “Diena ”. For more go to http://melnaysjanis.blogspot.com/

Some interesting pictures from NASA.

Note especially the fotos of the forest fires in Russia and Bolivia.
Elk are said to be wandering lost the streets of Moscow
and half-baked snakes in the backyard.

If animals at the animal shelter were threatened,
see http://rt.com/Top_News/2010-08-09/wildfires-russia-animal-rescue.html?fullstory
just just imagine what was happening to them in the forests.
Incidentally, what happens to the animals when their forest is destroyed?

Well, that depends on the resilience of the ecosystem in question.
I recommend you read up on ecpsystem dynamics and the idea of succession in forest environments and you might learn that forests are rarely completely destroyed.
Fires do radically transform habitats, but in most natural environments fires are part of the ecosystem. We influence the frequency and often severity of fires in the natural landscape as it was one of the first and oldest tools humans used for shaping their environment.
It is important to understand what you’re trying to save before you try to save it.

Oh, yes. Fires are part of the ecosystem alright.
Repeat the NASA photos:
http://earthobservatory.nasa.gov/IOTD/
See fires in Russia and Bolivia.
Lucky Latvia to have such experts to wreck it

An interesting exchange—in Latvian—of letters and information about the state of Latvia’s forests.

The following text from my projected talk on 15th of October. For more details and photos click on link at bottom of text.

Paldies. Tagad vārdi maniem cienījamiem viesiem: Dainim Īvanam, Janīnei Kursītei, un Laimai Muktupāvelei. Ko viņi domā un redz?
