Hello
I live in Uruguay, and I´ll travel to Chicago in June (3rd-8th) to attend the ASCO Cancer Meeting. I’m looking forwards to buying both Latvian goods and folk items. Is there some specialised Latvian/Baltic shop in Chicago? Thank you

Hi Veronika,

There is a little shop on the grounds of one of the Chicago churches - but I believe it’s generally open only during Saturday school hours (and I’m pretty sure that school will be out by that time) and on Sundays after church.  There are a number of shops selling Lithuanian items, but they’re all in the far suburbs as far as I know.  There were two marvelous full-time stores selling Baltic items of all kinds, both run by Latvian women, but both of the stores closed in the last 2 years.

I can look into this a little more if you’d like.  Please get in touch privately, if you wish.

Hope you have a good trip,
Anita

Just updating this thread in case anyone does a search.

Please note that the Latvian Folk Art Museum (linked above) does not sell Latvian folk items.  Visits to the museum may be made by appointment.  The link above also contains outdated information.

For current information about the museum, please check out our Facebook page:

Also I think I should update my posts!
I was indeed in Chicago, and despite the scarce spare time I managed to visit Lietuvele (thank you!!!). I couldn`t visit the Museum, so maybe I’ll do it next year: it seems the meetings of the American Society of Clinical Oncology will be held at Chicago for the next years!
I am right now going to the Facebook page!
Thank you to all of you for your suggestions!
