For those who do not know, Latvians have been in North America since the 1700’s and to answer a statement made in another topic about how late an Englishman set foot on Latvian soil I suggest one reads the book “The Northern Crusades” or do a search of it and it will tell you that the Baltic States were an open highway for people of all nations.
For those who want to hear what the Latvians who chose not to return to Latvia after 1991 are doing I give you the following links:

Happy listening

Khe, yes; what a great history. The help below the water line colonizes Tobago at the behest of a German duke in the Paradise of Nobles under Poland, as Spekke described Courland—a place where most people had no rights at all, even compared to the neighboring structures. And now we name a hypermarket after it.

Raimonds Pauls, the so-called Maestro, isn’t convinced that Latvia was ever occupied. What else did you want to know?

Frankly, I don’t think you wanna know anything, Kārli.

But, here. Sing along, Ambersun!

One wonders if Graudina kungs would consider Karlis a Latvian. He doesn’t speak the language, he doesn’t live in Latvia, and he doesn’t know about R. Pauls.

I was sent a book called dziesmas today from my stepmother in Tukums, why is it he does not believe Latvia was ever occupied? even I know Latvia has been ruled by nations as diverse as the poles and the swedes and also the germans over the centuries.

Not sarcastic at all. I’m genuinely wondering about Graudina kungs.

What would you like me to call myself, Juri? I am what I am. I won’t be apologetic about who I am.

Es jau dažus gadus nelieto sarkasmu. Ironiju, jā. Un es gan nedomāju ka man jūms par kaut ko ir jāatvainojas.

why is it he does not believe Latvia was ever occupied?

Perhaps because he did well under the regime?

Or is it perhaps that people have other considerations?

And once Ivariņš informs me that Latvia really does not matter at all—we all go off wherever and do whatever and as long as we feel, feel, feel every solstice we’re probably more important than anybody in that awful Latvia that can’t even become a knowledge society… um, well, I dunno. As long as everybody feels, feels, feels at Jāņi, I guess we have a nation going. It does so very well. Just like the Jews and the Scandinavians, or maybe the Irish.
