I just came back from the Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest in Coney Island today! I always wanted to go there in person so this year I decided to do it!
I was sad to see Kobayashi get beat because I was rooting for him but I was happy that both Chestnut and Kobayashi beat their own records!
What a blast! It was a lot of fun to be there in the crowd roaring away! Right there by the ocean on a perfect sunny, low humidity day!
I suppose I as a physician should not be taking pleasure in seeing my fellow human beings stuffing unhealthy hot dogs loaded with too much sodium, (and who knows what else), down their throats. But what the hell…........... It’s so silly and stupid that you gotta love it! And after a few days that sodium will work its way out through the urine.
Happy Independence Day to my fellow Americans!!!!

P.S. After the contest I loaded up on cans of Rigas šprotes and šprotu pastete which I love at Brighton Beach which is just a short walk away from Coney Island. You see there was something Latvian involved with me being in Coney Island today!
Visu Labu!
