I highly recommend “The Jews”, by Roger Peyrefitte.  A satire about a Jewish orthodox woman marrying into “high society"in France, with a Catholic priest showing the Catholic elite entered in the Almanach Gotha riddled with “Jewish blood”

Quite funny and true.\\

Rushing to dentist:  read about red-headedness origins in Ashkenazi Jewish ancestry, vs. the same in Irish, in the eyes of the geneticists….will hopefully give references later…

Tom, there is also a Baltic gene, LW(b), present in about 20% of Latvians and Lithuanians, the concentration gradually decreasing with distance away from the borders of these Baltic states.  Ethnic groups can be identified by DNA analysis.

I’m aware of the genetic identification of groups. But, is it reasonable to say that there is a “Jewish”  gene, like one might say there is a “Lutheran”  gene? Religions are associated, but not exclusively with certain groups.

Jewishness is not identified solely by religon.  Due to limited proselitization, nost Jews are descendants of the people living in the ancient land of Judah, and carry their genes.

The Turkish premier was so offended at the Davos G-8 meeting that he walked out.  I wonder if that means an escalation of violence by terrorists.  Turkey is the only moslem country to have diplomatic relations with Israel, and pushing it into breaking off contact doesn’t bode well for peace.

From TIME:
“Israelis head to the polls today, but the outcome of the vote won’t offer much encouragement for peace in the Middle East.”

There was peace on Election day.  I wonder if it was a good or bad omen!

I saw on BBC News how Israel is mending fences with the Palestinians

“a leading Israeli newspaper says the Israeli civil administration in the West Bank has designated an area of 172 hectares (425 acres) as state land.
Haaretz says the decision could pave the way for some 2,500 new settlement homes to be built.
However, several steps of government approval are required for building work to begin, which the newspaper says means construction is still a long way off.
Israeli has pledged to freeze settlement activity on occupied land, but it has continued to expand existing settlements, built in defiance of international law since 1967.
Right-wing parties which fared well in Israeli elections on 10 February are strong supporters of the settlement movement, which is seen as a major obstacle to the two-state solution supported by the US.
The settlement of Efrat, south of Jerusalem, is at the centre of the latest expansion plans. The mayor says he wants the 1,600-family settlement to grow to 30,000 residents.
More than 400,000 Israeli settlers live in the West Bank and East Jerusalem, which Israel captured in the 1967 war. ”

Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside thoroughly used up, totally worn out.

The Yom Kippur War and its aftermath are useful reminders that war is a destructive and often unpredictable business, one that usually hurts the overall investment. War always creates problems never ends it. The same is happening with Israel as money and human recourse is being wasted in war.

If their is war going to happen between these countries then the condition will get worse. Either country going to start the war will not get any benefit of it. I read an article about all such news on an Israeli News   Website that’s why I’m pretty convinced that Israel is in a real bad condition.
