The West Coast Song Festival in Ventura was really well organized and resulted in an enjoyable experience. All the concerts, plays, folk dance performances, literary readings etc were very well attented. I met a lot of ex-Bostonians ( and other friends) who have relocated to the West Coast. Also, present day Boston Latvians were represented with almost two dozen attendees. A grand time was had by all.

Anita, yes there were shuttle buses and I am sure that singing took place in them. However, I elected to use legwork and my rental car to get from place to place.

I always remember the West Coast Song Festivals that I attended not being on quite the same scale as those on the east coast in terms of numbers of people compared to places like the east cost, Toronto, in particular which was teeming with wall to wall people, so many that you could barely turn around on the dance floor; but I grew to like these more intimate types of settings, ‘bija omuligak’. Of course we’re talking about years ago and by now I think many of these events are not quite as large, with the exception of Latvia, as they once were, not that that should necessarily detract from anything…
As was once discussed right here on LOL, Dziesmas Svetki is an opportunity to catch up with old acquaintances and we Latvians seem to go and be everywhere. This isn’t exactly related, but I think Los Angeles has a really great ‘Biletens’, calendar of events with lots of interesting articles, photos; when I lived there I regularly subscribed to it, but it can also be read online.
I’m glad to hear it was successful, that things were well organized.
