Czechs apologize for confusing Latvia, Lithuania

The Latvian flag was in the game program along with a photo of the Latvian national soccer team. Before the match, Czech organizers played Latvia’s national anthem. However, the Czech Republic was facing Lithuania on Tuesday night, not Latvia.

The Czech Republic’s soccer federation apologized Wednesday to its Lithuanian counterpart and to the Lithuanian embassy in Prague. The federation said in a statement that the mistakes were inexcusable and measures will be taken not to repeat them in the future.

Federation spokesman Vaclav Tichy took responsibility and resigned from his post. His deputy was fired and another federation official fined, the statement said.

The Czech Republic, preparing for next month’s European Championship, won 2-0.

(forwarded to me in an email, so I’m not sure of the source)

Sveiki!

From the title I was sure the thread would be about LV’s Olympic team’s wardrobe in China. : )

“Diena’s” site is currently down, but earlier in the day there was an announcement that this wardrobe was based on the colors of the LV flag.

Well, you be the judge about how accurate that is; here are a slew of photographs:

Visu labu,

Judging from the pictures, the outfits are indeed based on the colors of the Latvian flag… assuming those outfits were then washed at least a few dozen times.  In hot water.

I once read somewhere that Latvia was one of only two countries that didn’t have flag colors in any of the Olympic circles (I forgot the other).  Not so much anymore…

Thanks for the link, Elizabete!

The other country is Qatar whose flag is the same colors as the latvian.
