I am trying to figure the corresponding words in english and latvian.

What is it in english for “Kāst” like in “Nokāst kartupeļus” ?

What is it in latvian for “fluff”, like “ fluff up the rice”?

Kāst = noliet = drain

Fluff: I do not eat rice, so I don’t care

Lauris et al.,

I am not sure if drain describes , “ Kāst “ entirely..  After the cooked potatoes are drained, they are put back on the fire and the pot briefly shaken.  I do not know if “ nokāst’ refers just to this shaking or draining and shaking together , but the stuff has to be cooked.  If it is not cooked, like washing and draining peas before cooking, I believe “noliet” is used.

The “fluffing” question came up while cooking rice with my relatives.  Best I could come up was “nu uzpuffēt kā spilvenu”.
