Andrew Ezergailis sent me some copies of Inta Ezergailis’ second volume of poetry in the English language, Inta’s Poems II, so I took the liberty of scanning some of them and posting them on “Kas jauns Latvijā?”. There is also an essay by Andrew Ezergailis.

Am I glad to see the Subcommandante back online! The reason is really bizarre. There is a mutual acquaintence of ours. now living in Latvia, who popped up with a message on draugiem.lv. This person, whose name Juris Z might or might not guess, remarked upon my recent visit to the US, briefly in January, when my father turned 90. The person expressed some pleasant surprise that my dad was doing well and noted that in Boston, a lot of people had been dying off, including some “vārda brālis” very recently that the draugiem.lv correspondent presumed I knew of. Word of my recent travels had come to this person from another e-mail correspondent in the Boston area.
A strange and somber paranoia took hold, since we have had some cases of frequent LOL posters who stop posting because they are no longer with us. This was against all facts and reason, since the people named Juris I know in the old home town (including the Subcommandante) are not of the age when people start punching out regularly. and they all appear in good health. I have also not heard of anyone falling victim to ‘mischief” or ‘misadventure’. the strange terms sometime used in insurance terminology to designate stepping in front of a bus or other accident.
Anyway, I don’t know who my draugiem.lv friend was referring to (the person lives way out in the Latvan sticks and is online like once an month), but I am glad we are all still here (I hope) on LOL. If you know what vārda brālis of ours may have departed, Juri Z, mail me privately.
