In a verdict just handed down by a jury, an alleged co-conspirator of the tragic 9-11 attacks was sentenced to life in prison instead of death. A reporter on TV declared that “Justice triumphed over evil”.
Indeed that is true.
The prosecution alleged that if the accused had told them what he knew , the attacks(might) have been prevented even though he had no part in the attacks therefore he deserved the death penalty. Justice indeed, triumphed over evil. Sentencing him to death in deed would have been evil. It would have been death by reason of proxy.
It would give justification to Saddam for killing the 100 plus because of the attempt on his life, a capital offence. The tribe, or whatever, should have come forward and told about the planned assassination. Just as in medieval times in Japan the members of a disgraced member of the family or clan were expected to commit suicide. Or a variation on the Bible where the sons and their sons suffer because of the indiscretions of their father.
In the eyes of the world this verdict is what America should be about. Strangely, the Bush administration was on the other side of it.
Visu labu,
