Mr L L,

http://www.singingrevolution.com

Special Screening in Napa this Saturday, 5/24!

And more...San Jose HELD OVER AGAIN for another week, and Opening in Sacramento!

We’re excited to share all of the activity happening in Northern California this week!

For anyone who couldn’t make it down to San Francisco, there will be a one day showing of The Singing Revolution in Napa this Saturday, May 24th!

San Jose has held over for its FOURTH week, and the film will open in Sacremento in July!

Some of the details of these showings and current cities can always be found on the website:  http://www.singingrevolution.com

NAPA, CA PLAYING THIS SATURDAY, MAY 24TH!

SAN JOSE HELD OVER THROUGH MONDAY, MAY 26TH!

We’re thrilled about the continued interest in seeing The Singing Revolution in Northern California.  We also have a few more Southern California cities coming, so check the website if you have friends or family there as well (coming to San Diego in July, too, but the date is not finalized yet).

Thanks for helping us get here.  Please help spread the word about the film opening. Word of mouth is how we’ve gotten this far, and it’s why the film is being held over in other cities!

Hope you can make it!

Miss Ambersun –

Thank you for the info and the URL.
You just may succeed in convincing me to get the DVD when it is available.

Mr. L L, always sunny Irena (except sometimes not to me), my “favorite Lumumba University nemesis” (whoever that may be), the International Friendship Brigade (you know who you are), the Berkeley brownies I spotted at the Singing Revolution (who may be the same as THE berkeley-brownies), my candidate Hillary Clinton, and everyone looking for a sunny moment in the month of May:

He kept mum with the cops, but began chatting after a few days with the vet.

Maybe there is a hidden moral advice in this message - :)

Thank you Amber!  I am very relieved that clever, little Yosuke found his way back home.  I like hearing/reading about stories with happy endings especially involving ‘all creatures great and small’.  And May, incidentally is one of my favorite months.  I remember when I was in Latvia last, Lilacs were in bloom everywhere, all varieties, colors, people picking them, freely, carrying huge bunches home and yet despite that, the blooms would return again the following spring as profusely as ever.  At least that was what we were told.

If I come across dour at times, it’s because I need to set guidelines, set people straight!!(I jest, of course)!  I’m sure you are caring and well-intentioned, even though we may not see certain things in quite the same way.  Often differences seem to become more pronounced, exaggerated in the narrow confines of communicating on a forum, where you just don’t have the availability of those simple gestures that can make all the difference—a wink, that winning, dazzling smile.  And political discussions can certainly take their toll, be hard on the best of relations--never at the dinner table, Puhleeeze!  But then again, if there is no dissension and every body always agrees, there’s little left to discuss, so you need some stimulation, “some provocation"( and lots of it), as Peteris would attest to.  And now I seem to be drifting into another topic about what makes for a good forum, so many of the same discussions we used to have here once upon a time, which never were really resolved, I guess…

Happy saulainais maijs, though in CA, at least in the southern part of the state, I remember it often being cold, damp and dreary.

Happy saulainais maijs, Irena, from beautiful, sunny northern California!

I’m with you in my relief that little Yosuke found his way home.  Imagine that, a parrot speaking Japanese.  I just hope that I can find my own way home in Latvia with my Latvian.  I might as well be speaking Japanese if I get the taxi driver that Peteris did who could only speak Russian.

I can hardly wait to shop at Rimi in Riga and buy my burkani and biezpiens and count my change viens, divi, tris santimi!

Mr. L. L. et al.,

You did not answer Ambersun:

“ am interested in your sharing more about the Latvians “kas ar mani auga 15. maija saulē. We lack first-hand accounts here of that time.

If you don’t mind. “

I myself was too young, but my mother and others like her, who came of age after WWI were known as the “zelta jaunatne”.  Times were good, peace, prosperity, happiness, till the occupiers, “the red fog” from the east rolled in.

Visu labu,

Mr. Bruno the Lett:

But I have answered Miss Ambersun’s request:

“ Short time ago we read DisaW’s questions about the old Latvia and tried to recreate “Dzivi Saulainaja Latvija”.  We did not get very far, did we?”

I am not about to repeat the same error.
This forum is not conductive for friendly reminiscences about “good old Latvia of and for Latvians”.

The “Daugavpils” topic by (?)Irena would be interesting to develop, but already it is smeared with obligatory jewish smell.

Mr. L. L.

P.S. My generation during German occupation was called by some as “Ulmana Jaunatne”.

Bruno the Lett and Mr L L:

I agree with Mr L L that “[t]his forum is not conductive for friendly reminiscences.” If we could stick to descriptions without harsh editorializing and refrain from expressing our most offensive prejudices, it may be possible. That we are different is no secret, but some realities about ourselves are less offensive to share than others. And some opinions we may have may be better expressed in greater privacy.  This forum requires a certain amount of poltically correct restraint.

One can always try to find some good books to read about the “Ulmana Jaunatne” or the “zelta jaunatne.” Would you have any suggestions or personal favorites?

Just out of curiosity, how does one political correctly express that: The “Daugavpils” topic by (?)Irena would be interesting to develop, but already it is smeared with obligatory jewish smell.?

Andrejs, of the obligatory jewish smell

Andrejs,
I reject discrimination and bigotry based on race, color, religion, gender, sexual orientation, national origin, stereotypes, habit, and ignorance. I don’t rank these by any order of personal preference.  Expressions of such bigotry are loathesome and should be condemned, but many disagree, including heads of state and religion. I look forward to the people of the world, including LOL participants, showing tolerance if not acceptance, and living in harmony according to the universal golden rule to do unto others as they would have done unto themselves.

I openly stated any number of times that I condemn the display and public celebration glorifying Hitler/Nazism and Stalin/Communism. I condemn both at any rearing of their despicable heads, in whatever country. There is a double standard among others in the world and on LOL.

I recognize that Germany has admitted guilt and attempted to make restitution for its crimes against humanity, which include crimes against Russians, Balts, Jews, Gypsies, homosexuals, etc. International tribunals have tried and punished individual perpetrators of war crimes.  I recognize that Russia as the heir of the Soviet Union, unlike Germany, has not admitted guilt of war crimes and has not offered any restitution for its crimes against humanity, which include crimes against Russians, Balts, Jews, Gypsies, homosexuals, etc.

Russia continues to deny the occupation of the Baltic States and has made no admission of its crimes against humanity, which include crimes against the Latvians, Lithuanians, and Estonians.  Russia has not offered to make restitution.

The restored-Republic governments of Latvia, Lithuania, and Estonia have individually examined and condemned crimes against specifically Jews committed in the Baltic States by Latvians, Lithuanians, and Estonians.

Ambersun,

I am glad to hear you reject discrimination. But back to my original question:

“Just out of curiosity, how does one political correctly express that: The “Daugavpils” topic by (?)Irena would be interesting to develop, but already it is smeared with obligatory jewish smell?”

I genuinely want to know. I try to shower on a regular basis, but I guess I should scrub more. At least on half of my body.

Thanks in advance,
Andrejs

Perhaps it is a matter of garlic, or somebody sticking the foot in their mouth.

Andrej~

Not to worry!  You haven’t a toxic cell in your entire body; both halves make a perfect whole!

And any body odor, and (half-of-self) self-absorption.
