Quite a few interesting subjects touching my life experiences.
Wish I could read them all :)

Some are hard to get titles, suggest you get them while they are there in Saulaine.

This book list is really impressive and I was hard put to make choices--would’ve loved to order so much more!  And just think, once I finish reading all this and become “informed”, I just may be ready to play hard ball, be a part of the Boy’s Club here on LOL--that is, after a couple of years, which will probably take that long for me to get through these books.

Velreiz, mils paldies, Kristine!

I’ve sent the Saulaine lists to friends & relatives in Latvija - they’ve shown an interest in hard to find books.  Maybe your friends & relatives over there want some “new” reading material?  Especially this history list!

Sveiks Prince!

99% of the books on Latvian history, that have been donated to Saulaine, are in Latvian, so the list is in Latvian also. There are some exceptions like Dr. Alfred Bilmanis: “History of Latvia” and “Latvia as an Independent State”, “Latvia and the Baltic Problem” by Arnolds Spekke, as well as “Res Baltica” (A Collection of Essays honouring the memory of Dr.Alfred Bilmanis) are in English.

Every month or so the Saulaine Bookstore sends out lists of recently donated books.

The first list was novels, folklore, children’s in Latvian, the second poetry, the third history, the fourth will be religious, etc.

The fifth list will be Latvian content in English, likely sent out in 6-8 weeks or so.

Let me know if you are looking for something in particular! We can mail anywhere! Requested donations are based on a Latvian historian’s knowledge of the value/rarity of the book.

Reply to Mr. J!

Can’t seem to get an email back to you.

Yes, the Saulaine Bookstore has newly donated, in Latvian:

Mikelis Goppers: Latvijas Vesture: Latvju Tautas Liktencinas Eiropas Krustcelos, ar 37 schematiskam kartem un 131 attelu, Stockholma, 1947, hardcover, large fomat, 338 pages

Also O. Freivalds: Kurzemes Cietoksnis: Dokumenti, liecibas un atminas par latviesu tautas likteniem 1944/1945 gada, Kopenhagena-Imanta, 1964, hard linen cover, 182 pages.

Thank you to all Saulaine supporters-you have expanded your Latvian history libraries! Some of the books on the original history list you can get in Latvia, but most of them, including the above two, are never to be found again!

Please email again--

Thank you Mr. A. P. for your order! Will keep a look out for those additional books.

The latvian history booklist, in latvian, is still available with some new additions since last week, over 50 books in number, all from the West or from Latvia since 1991.

Please email me directly if you would like the list.  All donations support Saulaine, since all books are donated to Saulaine for sale!

Unreal!

Moments ago arrived donations at the Bookstore at Saulaine:

Adolfs Silde: Latvijas Vesture, 1914-1940, Daugava, Sweden, linen hardcover, 785 pages.

Edgars Andersons: Latvijas Vesture: Arpolitika I and II, 1920-1940, both Daugava, 1982 and 1984, both linen hardcover, each 700 pages.

( all three are in Latvian)

Make an offer!  We can mail anywhere!  All donations support Saulaine!

Shildes book is gone. ( thank you E! )

Andersons two volumes are still available. Difficult to find here in the West, never to be found in Latvia ( except at the Latvian National Library) and never to be reprinted since they were so expensive to publish in the first place!

Saki, Kristine, vai sie Saulaines gramatu saraksti ir kautkur redzami timekli?  Un vai tie saraksti tiek ‘atjaunoti ‘ ik pa nedelai, piemeram?

Chau Ilze!

Ilze’s question was whether or not the book lists can be viewed over the Internet. No, we don’t have anything that formal yet. The Saulaine Book Store has been running for the last 6 years, but this is the first year we have attempted a turn-over of books in the dead of winter, in addition to the regular hours three seasons of the year.

The primary reason for this change has been the fact that so many people have made requests of books which WE USUALLY END UP HAVING and we have recently had unbelievable quality in the donations of Latvian and other books.

At this point, the easiest thing to do is to make specific requests. As well, we send out new themed lists every month or so. The next list being compiled is religious literature--again, rare books, esp one about all the churches in Latvia, photos, extensive history on each one, as well as the present status of each congregation.

The next one after the above will be Latvian content IN ENGLISH--novels, history, poetry.

Saulaine is grateful to those who send the book lists further into the world...as well as grateful for the donors and shoppers!!!  As you know, all books are donated, all work ( including mine) is done by volunteers and all donations support Saulaine.
