Another question I have is for any tips on using taxis in Riga.  I heard that they are like sharks.  What should be the cost of transport from the airport to Old Riga.

It’s been a while since I had to take a taxi from the airport to old Rīga, perhaps four years ago now. It was about 8 lats back then, but hopefully someone else here will have more recent experiences to share with you.

OK after taking about 6 trips there and back from the airport in the last few months around 8 Lats is good. Usually going there is cheaper than going into Riga from the airport (we paid 10, into Riga on our first trip, but it was easter). The red cab co. is great and they always arrive and ring on time.

having just returned from riga i can say yes the red cabs are best. but even they are dodgey as they had us on a night time tarriff and this was at 11am in the morning.

Read last year in an online search there was a bus service from the airport to downtown.

My mom keeps telling me to take the 22A bus from the airport into town. I know it will get you to the National Art Museum on Valdemara Street for 50 Santims, beyond that I don’t know.

Taxi in Riga are outrageously expensive-some of the private drivers will charge you an arm and a leg...Month ago, while going to Jurmala-Lielupe-i was charged almost $50.00 for a ride by some taxi driver-with an official license; on my way back to Riga from Dubulti a got a red Taxi with the Reval Hotel logo, and paid only $30.00...You can always call them-they have toll-free number on the car...Anyway, be very CAREFULL with any other taxi except for the red ones....
