58 parliamentarians voted “YES” for Doctor Zed, with only 40 opposed.  Endziņš nabbed 39 votes, with 60 opposed to him.  This means that one member of the “Jaunais Laiks"/"PCTVL" unholy alliance broke ranks and voted with their conscience.  No word on when the Diena witch hunt for this person will commence.

Endziņš conceded, stating that the process was already a foregone conclusion.  He added: «Iepriekš dzirdēju, ka Zatleram stingrāks mugurkauls nekā Endziņam. Ceru, ka šis mugurkauls būs stingrs arī politiskajā stājā,» ("I had heard that Zatlers has more of a backbone than Endziņš.  I hope that this spine will be strong in the political arena.”

Congratulations to the next President of the Republic of Latvia—Dr. Valdis Zatlers!

Par nodokļiem, kuriem Streips te piesauc kā visa mēru, runājot, tieši Zatlera ievēlēšana ir garantija tam, ka šī problēma tiks risināta un medicīnas joma tiks sakārtota, un, kas zina, varbūt izrādīsies, ka Zatlers ir jēdzīgs prezidents un reāla labuma no viņa būs vairāk, nekā no Vīķes-Freibergas, kuras vārdos un darbos aizvien spilgtāk izpaužas viņas organismā un psihē notiekošās neatgriezeniskās vecuma izmaiņas. Ko par Zatleru teiks ārzemēs? Ziniet, tā nav viņu darīšana. I would make a comment regarding Roberts’ comment on “a core group of pseudo-intellectuals,” but that would violate the rules of civility and doubtless get deleted by forumadmin. You go really low, Robčik, and I shan’t offend worms by comparing them—I daresay that besides their awesome “achievements in other endeavours,” some of these people were central to Latvia’s freedom in the late 1980s and to Latvia’s rebirth in the 1990s.

Auders was with Jaunais Laiks, a Zaglers is mitt Herr Slice. Big difference.

As I recall, before he entered politics Auders practiced medicine in the hospital that Zatlers administered. When he was appointed health minister, he launched an investigation into Zatlers’ alleged corruption. This ploy woefully backfired on him....
