Well, I suppose you could damn the expense and unwieldy process that this would be for a presidential election.  It could take 6 months or more to determine the result.  You don’t like the balance of power that a mix of both representational and direct election would give?

It would certainly be expensive, but the cheapest form of government is totalitarian rule and I don’t think we want that.

The immediacy of the result is also not a concern.

And I don’t understand your question, considering I’m proposing a mix of representational and direct election.

What to do next?  Participate in the referendum and vote down the decision of the Saeima!  That will show the ruling coalition that the electorate will not stand still while being manhandled.
