U.S. newspapers (and the world press, like bbc) are full of news about the cyber attack on Estonia coming from “Russian” sources.  For weeks I have been noticing strange spam on Latvian DELFI.  Is Latvia also being cyber-attacked?  The bbc news article published 5/17/07 ("Estonia hit by ‘Moscow cyber war’") mentions “spam avalanche” and further states that “instructions on how to carry out cyber warfare are circulating in Russian on Russian websites” and “...the cyber attacks come from all over the world.” Examples of DELFI “spam” can be found among the “atsauksmes” to the article: BARROZU BRIDINA KRIEVIJU NECENSTIES SASKELT ES (5/19/07). What do you think?

It wouldn’t surprise me a bit. But this is the natural course of warfare in mankind. Since man has existed and arguments surfaced, and a new weapon is used, a new means of defense against this new weapon must be devised. Today it computer-viral warfare. In a sense Estonia has the dubious distinction of being the first nation in the history of the world to be attacked by another country via internet. Those Estonains always do everything first in the Baltics don’t they? Thus new firewalls anti-virus protection must be developed, etc.
Estonians have always believed that when you are small you must use your brain instead of muscle and that is exactly what they are doing. The anti virus protection that they will come up with will serve them well in the years to come.

I would look forward with delight to future cyberattacks on Estonia and Latvia. This is a bloodless way to fight the Russians, and I have faith that our cyberwarriors show themselves victorious in this battle of wits.
