Prof. Bernard Lewis of Princeton writes: “There is something in the religious culture of Islam which inspired, in even the humblest peasant or peddler, a dignity and a courtesy toward others never exceeded and rarely equaled in our civilization.”
Perhaps our political, economic and philosophical intrusions threaten this communal harmony, so the reactions to this threat are so violent, even to the point of self-destruction. The tale of 72 virgins awaiting martyrs in Paradise is a self-delusion that we use to cover up our ignorance of the true nature of the Muslim soul.
