Riga Hotel recommendation

When I traveled to Latvia with my mother, we would usually stay at Hotel Bergs - a beautiful 5 star hotel. On the last trip, however, mom needed to have a walk-in shower. We had to look elsewhere.
We stayed at the Hotel Neiburgs in Old Town. This is a 4 star hotel, but a very good one. If you want comfortable, contemporary decor in an old Jugendstil building in the center of everything, this is the place to stay. Exceptionally courteous staff, great restaurant, and the bar has some unique drinks. They introduced me to a Latvian caraway liquor that was fantastic - Black Balzams is Latvian, but Allazu Kimelis is the way to go. Enjoy your trip!

Latvian Banknotes in the US

I just got back from Riga last week. I forgot to exchange my lats to euros/dollars before I came back to the United States. Does anyone know how I can exchange them to dollars in the states? I am having a very hard time exchanging them.

Another idea I had was if someone is going to Latvia I can exchange them with who ever is going so they will have some lats when they get there.

may be is anybody here who can help me!!!!

i’m jorg and i’m the webmaster of http://www.nor-truck.de , a website about norwegian & scandinavien trucks.

now i have istall a traffic and weather information site for all european countries so anybody can use this
to find informations on one site.

but’s is not easy to find actually traffic report messages from the east part of europe, because i don’t speak
the languages.

so i want to ask you if you could give me links to site where i can find actually road traffic reports.

car hire while in latvia

i am hoping that someone has advice about vehicle hire in Latvia. I will be visiting a relative and staying with her in August. Should we decide to explore the countryside further, it would be advantageous to hire a car.
What have others in this situation done about securing such a car overnight - especially in the city?

Travelling to Latvia November/December 2009

My wife and I are travelling to Latvia later this year, and will be looking for family in Dandaga. We would be grateful for any help in regards to accomodation, rail travel,visa’s etc. We live in Australia.
