Tautiešu mēnesis takes place this summer from July 2-18 at various locations in Rīga and the rest Latvia. The event is hosted by the Secretariat of the Special Assignment Minister for Social Integration. Kremer, chamber orchestra at Lockenhaus

Latvia-born violinist and his Kremerta Baltica perform daily July 3-13 during the 27th annual Kammermusikfest Lockenhaus in Lockenhaus, Austria. The festival, for which Kremer is artistic director, this year focuses on the music of French composers. Kremerata Baltica, founded in 1997 by Latvia-born violinist Gidon Kremer, is a chamber orchestra composed of 27 young musicians from the Baltic states. Seminar for diaspora school teachers

Teachers in all Latvians schools abroad are invited to participate in a seminar hosted by the National Agency for Latvian Language Training (Latviešu valodas apguves valsts aģentūra, or LVAVA) and the World Federation of Free Latvians (Pasaules brīvo latviešu apvienība, or PBLA) from July 4-5 at the Rīga Lithuanian Secondary School, Prūšu iela 42a, Rīga. Teachers from all areas of the diaspora—new and old, east and west—will gather to discuss common problems and solutions, share ideas, and learn about new teaching materials and methods. “Lana’s Night, Spirit Re-Union,” a benefit for Lana Kurashidze of Latvia, is scheduled at 22:30 hours July 4 in The Academy, 57 Middle Abbey St., Dublin. Kurashidze, a former staff member of the club, has been diagnosed with a brain tumor. Kurashidze worked at the club, formerly known as Spirit, from 2003 to 2006.
