Australian Latvian Arts Festival

The Sydney latvian community hosts the 52nd Australian Latvian Arts Festival (Austrālijas latviešu 52. Kultūras dienas) from Dec. 26-31. For information on a wide variety of concerts, events and exhibitions, visit www.latvianartsfestival.org.au.

New Year’s Eve ball in Philadelphia

The American Latvian Youth Association (ALJA) is hosting a New Year’s Eve ball on Dec. 31 at the Philadelphia Society of Free Letts, 531 North 7th St., Philadelphia. The day will begin at noon with a historic tour of Independence Hall. Cocktails will begin at 6 p.m., with dinner at 7 p.m. Dancing will begin at 8 p.m. with live music provided by 925 Entertainment. Join fellow revelers for the Mummers’ Day parade on Jan. 1. Dinner costs USD 15. Admission is USD 50 per person or USD 80 per couple and includes a glass of champagne and ALJA membership for one year. Dinner is an extra USD 15. New Year’s Eve in Kalamazoo

The Kalamazoo Latvian Association is organizing a New Year’s Eve event, “Casino Royale 009,” beginning at 7 p.m. Dec. 31 at the Kalamazoo Latvian Center, 100 Cherry Hill, Kalamazoo. Try your luck gambling with black jack, Texas Hold’em, roulette and craps. Thousands of dollars in prizes will be handed out. Performances are planned by Delete, Vija Vīksne and others, while dancing will be to DJ MGD. Appetizers will be available all night, including a chocolate lovers’ buffet and a midnight champagne brunch. Admission is USD 65 for adults and USD 45 for 2x2 camp participants and seniors, if registered by Dec. 26. After Dec. 26 and at the door all tickets are USD 75.
