Event honors author Gubiņa

The Brisbane Latvian Literary Club will honor the 80th anniversary of the birth of Indra Gubiņa at 14:00 hours July 26 in the Latvian House, 24 Church Court, Buranda. Valdis Gertners will tell about the life and works of Gubiņa, a favorite author among Latvians living abroad. Admission is by donation.

Denmark
Choir Kamēr in Copenhagen

The youth choir Kamēr, directed by Māris Sirmais, performs a program of world sun songs in solo concerts July 24 and 25 during the 8th World Symposium on Choral Music in Copenhagen. The choir also performs at 14:00 hours July 26 during the closing ceremony of the symposium in the Copenhagen Opera House, Ekvipagemestervej 10, Copenhagen. Skride sisters perform in Baden-Baden

Violinist Baiba Skride, accompanied by her sister, pianist Lauma Skride, performs at 7 p.m. July 26 in Festspielhaus Baden-Baden, Beim Alten Bahnhof 2, Baden-Baden. On the program are works by Franz Schubert, Ludwig van Beethoven, Olivier Messiaen and Dmitri Shostakovich. For further information, visit www.festspielhaus.de.

Michigan
Mednis un Kīns at Gaŗezers

The popular Latvian-American duo Mednis un Kīns will perform in concert at 7 p.m. July 26 at the Latvian Center Gaŗezers, 57732 Lone Tree Road, Three Rivers. The duo consists of Edmunds Mednis and Ēriks Kīns. The concert is billed as a continuation of a tour that started in Latvia last year as they present their debut album, Lidojums. The hit “Putni” will be among songs performed during the concert. The duo will be backed up by Artūrs Rūsis, Laila Medne, Klāvs Mednis and others. Admission is USD 15.
