- ‘Rīgas sargi’ in Chicago
The feature film Rīgas sargi (Defenders of Rīga) will be screened at 10 a.m. June 7 in the Village Crossing Theater, 7000 Carpenter Road (corner of Touhy and Central avenues), Skokie. The film, in Latvian with English subtitles, depicts the November 1919 battle for Rīga against rogue German forces. The screening is sponsored by the Chicago Latvian Association. Tickets will be available at the door for USD 15 (senior citizens and students, USD 10).

- Zolīte afternoon in Brisbane
The Daugavas Vanagi sponsors a monthly gathering for enthusiasts of the card game zolīte. Come and play at 13:00 hours June 7 at the Latvian House, 24 Church Court, Buranda. Admission is AUD 5.

- ‘Vogelfrei’ screened in Sydney festival
The feature film Vogelfrei, in which four Latvian directors examine a day in the life of a man at four stages in his life, will be screened during the 55th Sydney Film Festival. The showings are at 4:20 p.m. June 7 in the Greater Union George Street, 505-525 George St., Sydney, and at 6:30 p.m. June 10, also in Greater Union George Street. The 92-minute film is in Latvian and Russian. Directors Jānis Kalējs, Gatis Šmits, Jānis Putniņš and Anna Viduleja will be present to discuss the film.
