August 06, 2006
Do you know the words and melodies to “Pūt, vējiņi!” or “Seši mazi bundzenieki”? Do you think everyone should? If so, here is your chance to have a say in what the next song festival in Latvia will sound like. The Web site www.musudziesmas.lv is asking visitors to list the songs they think everyone should know.
The most popular songs will be heard in a concert planned this autumn in Arēna Rīga as well as in the closing ceremony of the 2008 Latvian Song and Dance Festival in Rīga.
If you want more information about the song festival itself, visit www.dziesmusvetki2008.lv.

I would love to know the words to this song and many others and wish their was a book that one could purchase that had these. My problem is that I don't remember the name of all the songs I like but recall them when I hear them.

"Puut veejin,i" as well as "ses'i mazi Bundzenieki" are very well known to even those less than fluent in Latvian. In addition "puut veejin,i" was a rallying song for all Latvians when we were still under communist suppresion.

It would be nice if musical notes of, at least, the melodies would be available. Another thing. The statement that "EVERYBODY knows this" means that if you don't you are a dummy. I have heard such statements from so called "Patriotic" Latvians. It just turns the others away in DISGUST.
