Heijā, šeit nav mēstuļu!
January 24, 2006
The trendiness of Gmail has worn off a bit (it’s so 2004, after all), but the free Web-based e-mail service provided by the California-based search engine company Google continues to grow in popularity. The service offers loads of storage space for messages. In its publicity about Gmail, Google says the company believes users never should have to throw away e-mail. (Our account, for example, has 2.6 gigabytes of space available—and the figure continues to grow.)
But we’re not here to plug Gmail. We’re here to plug the Latvianized Gmail. Folks might not know that it is possible to set Latvian as your display language (it’s one of almost 40 choices).
So what? So nothing. Except it’s just cool to be able to use a Latvianized program on the Web. And when you dump all the spam in your mailbox, it’s just cute to see the message, “Heijā, šeit nav mēstuļu!”
