Ganiņš biju: The video
Pupils of the Stockholm Latvian School are among performers featured in the video.
July 01, 2005
To round out the school year, the Latvian community of Stockholm, Sweden, decided to stage a performance of composer Bruno Skulte’s rhapsody “Ganiņš biju” (A Herder’s Life). And now folks the world over can watch the June 4 performance, thanks to the videography of Raitis Freimanis.
The 25-minute video is available for viewing or download from ELJA.org, the Web site of the European Latvian Youth Association (Eiropas latviešu jaunatnes apvienība). Participating in the performance were pupils from the Stockholm Latvian School, the Stockholm Latvian Choir, and various teachers, parents and friends.
Be warned, though, it is a large file, totaling more than 256 MB.
Skulte (1905-1976) was born in Latvia but lived half his life in exile in New York.
